Joe Riggs is coming back to the UFC and will be replacing an injured Mike Rhodes at UFC Fight Night 51 against Paulo Thiago, but hold the breaks on that now. Riggs is out because he accidentally shot himself in the hand after he was cleaning his gun.
“Riggs was transported to a nearby hospital in Arizona where he is being treated by physicians,” a UFC statement read. “We wish Joe a speedy recovery.”
Paulo Thiago (15-7) Has two knockouts, eight submissions and five wins by decision. He has been with the UFC since 2009 where he beat Josh Koscheck at UFC 95.
In his last five fights, he is 1-4.
Thiago lost to Siyar Bahadurzada via knockout at UFC on Fuel TV 2 – Gustafsson vs. Silva on Apr / 14 / 2012 and then Dong Hyun Kim via unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel TV 6 – Franklin vs. Le on Nov / 10 / 2012. Thiago beat Michel Richard Cunha dos Prazeres via unanimous decision at UFC on FX 8 – Belfort vs. Rockhold on May / 18 / 2013, but then dropped two fights. Thiago lost to Brandon Thatch via knockout at UFC Fight Night – Belfort vs. Henderson on Nov / 09 / 2013 and then Gasan Umalatov via unanimous decision at The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 Finale on May / 31 / 2014.
UFC Fight Night 51 goes down Sept. 13 at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil. The event will air on UFC Fight Pass. The main event will be Andrei Arlovski vs. Antonio Silva.
As of right now, there has been no replacement named for Riggs to fight Thiago..
