Nelson beat DaMarques Johnson via Rear-Naked Choke at UFC on Fuel TV 5 – Struve vs. Miocic on Sep / 29 / 2012. He then won his next two fights with wins over Jorge Santiago via Unanimous decision at UFC on Fuel TV 7 – Barao vs. McDonald on Feb / 16 / 2013 and then Omari Akhmedov via Guillotine Choke at UFC Fight Night – Gustafsson vs. Manuwa on Mar / 08 / 2014.

Round 1: They clinch, Cummings working the outside. Nelson misses a knee and then a right hand as they break. Nelson throws a body kick, Cummings with a few jabs. Cummings with a waist lock, he get’s the back and puts him on the fence. Nelson reverses and eats a uppercut. They exchange to the bell. 

Round 2: Cummings clinches with Nelson and puts him on the fence. A brief exchange, but then right back to the clinch. Nelson is being very lackluster, which is making the crowd a bit annoyed. They both land straight rights. Nelson lands a big straight right that stuns Cummings. However, Cummings presses forward and lands a nice flurry of strikes. Nelson throws a knee, but Cummings catches it. Cummings goes in for a takedown, but Nelson transitions and get’s the back of Cummings.Nelson locks in the rear naked choke for the win!
